Calculating the Value of Your Precious Selling Time by Daniel Sitter

Time, is our most precious resource. How are we to make the most effective use of each twenty-four hour span? Most people give little thought to the actual value of their time, possibly not even during conventional working hours. Entrepreneurs know better. We cannot afford to haphazardly approach the workday. We must have a plan and execute it to the best of our ability, leveraging time to our greatest benefit.

Dave Navarro at Jonathan Phillips' Freelance Folder proposes a thought-provoking method of accurately valuing our time.

"Your time is worth exactly this much:

Cash Money / Hours Worked = Your Rockin' $DPH (Dollars Per Hour)

Now, in the last 30 days, how much did you earn? Stop reading, and think about this seriously. Don't read any further until you do. How much cash crossed your hands (or how many orders came in) in the last month? Stop and think about it.

Now that you have that number firmly in mind, it's time to get brutally honest. How many hours did you spend in the last 30 days doing business tasks or business-ish tasks?

Translation: Business tasks = stuff that actually drove your business forward Business-ish tasks = pointless stuff you did when you were supposed to be doing stuff to drive your business forward.

That's right ... those business-ish activities robbed you of the revenue generating goodness that you know and love. But you still gotta include them in the equation. And they bring that $DPH down, down, down."

Most self-employed people are acutely aware that their time investment must produce immediate income. Most generate income in proportion to the amount of hours spent working each day. Many other entrepreneurs however, are in the position of remaining gainfully employed as they pursue their entrepreneurial dreams part-time. This strategy is often a wise one, born of necessity, in the absence of venture capitol investors. It provides that safety-net of income and benefits for our family while we tend to our dream.

If we calculate the incoming-producing value of our time at $120 per hour, we must also further understand that idle, non-productive time is then costing us $120 per hour. This is opportunity cost. While not immediately recognizable, this cost can cripple a fledgling business if not properly managed.

All activity, however relevant to the business, does not directly produce income, yet remains important to the overall business operation. Such activities are best completed during non-prime-time hours, where selling and revenue generation must remain the priority otherwise. Designing advertisements, marketing materials and selling strategies, bookkeeping and other administrative functions fall within this category of necessary activities. It may make sense to consider outsourcing many of these tasks to others who will charge far less than $120 per hour for their services, yet deliver a top-notch solution for your needs, thus freeing you to generate more revenue with your precious, limited selling time.

There are many occasions where a personal phone call, sales call or a group sales presentation are necessary. For effective sales results under those circumstances, our conventional, personal efforts must focus on our best sales prospects during the most productive, prime part of the day. For most businesses, this the 8:00am until 6:00pm time slot. Our automated sales systems however, such as our web site, blog, advertising and various marketing channels are available 24/7/365 to a world-wide audience of prospective buyers. These systems often provide us many warm prospects for dealing with during prime time. Learn how to let your assets work for you.

Keeping tabs on your most productive selling hours, managing your time and other assets to your maximum advantage while minimizing idle, non-productive time is the formula for a successful business. Try watching less TV and invest that time in your business. Be certain to eat well, drink plenty of water, sleep well, scheduling both downtime and family time.

Become well-rounded in order to renew your energy each day; energy sufficient to fuel your income-producing hours. Your goal should be to have all of your assets consistently working at maximum levels for your benefit.

Why Kids Tell Lies and What To Do About It by James Lehman

Catching your child in a lie is maddening, painful and upsetting. What else does he lie about? How can I trust him? Behavioral therapist James Lehman explains why kids tell lies and suggests a better way for parents to deal with it.

Q: When your child lies to you, it hurts. As parents, it makes us angry and we take it personally. We feel like we can never trust our child again. Why does lying cause such anger, pain and worry for parents?

James: Parents are understandably very afraid of their children getting hurt and getting into trouble, but they have very little protection against these things as they send their kids out into the world. Kids learn from other kids and from external media, and this makes parents feel unsafe because they can't control the information and ideas that their children are exposed to.

Your kid's honesty becomes the connector between what's happening to him on the outside world and what happens at home. You need him to tell you honestly what happened today, so that you can honestly decide if that's best for him. You need him to tell you what he's doing so you can decide if that's going to help him meet his responsibilities now and in the future. When parents don't get the right information, they're afraid they'll make the wrong choices for their kids.

When your kid lies, you start to see him as "sneaky," especially if he continues to lie to you. You feel that he's going behind your back, that he's undermining you. You begin to think that your kids are "bad"." Because, certainly, if lying is bad, liars are bad. It's just that simple.

Parents need to make their kids responsible for lying. But the mistake parents make is they start to blame the kid for lying. It's considered immoral to lie. But when you look at your kid like he's a sneak and an operator who's undermining your authority, it's a slippery slope that starts with "You lie" and ends up at "You're a bad person." I think that perception of your kid promotes more lying. If your child thinks you think he's "bad," he's going to hide the truth from you even more, because he doesn't want be bad. Even though they are lying, kids don't want to disappoint their parents.

Q: Let's look at it from the child's perspective. What's going in on a child's mind when they lie to their parents?

James: Kids know lying is forbidden. But they don't see it as hurtful. Not the way that parents see it as hurtful. So a kid will say, "I know it's wrong that I ate a sugar snack when I'm not supposed to. But who does it hurt?" "I know it's wrong that I traded my dried fruit for a Twinkie. But it doesn't really hurt anybody. I can handle it. What's the big deal?" That's what the kid sees.

When they don't see it as hurtful, there are two different value systems operating: the family's value system that says this is forbidden and the kid's value system that says if it's not hurting anybody, what do you care? The kid rationalizes his actions and justifies his behavior with the idea that it doesn't hurt anybody. The outcome is a dishonest situation. A lie.

When you get to adolescence, of course, the stakes get much higher. But the thinking remains the same. Kids smoke pot and drink and say, "Well it doesn't hurt anybody. My friends smoke pot and it doesn't hurt them. I know drinking's wrong, but my parents drink and it doesn't hurt them. I can handle it. I'm older than my parents think I am." They know it's forbidden. They either don't see it as hurtful, or they rationalize the hurt away.

Q: So what's the best way for parents to deal with lying, so that they don't feel hurt and resentful about it and so that the child learns not to lie?

James: The first thing you have to do is be careful of is giving lies too much power. If you have a kid who's mad at you or feels aggravated and powerless, and if he feels he can gain power over you by telling you a lie, he'll use dishonesty to get that power. He'll withhold information and lie by omission when you're trying to get the truth. He'll give you little pieces of information, and that makes him feel powerful. It's a trap for parents. Honesty is important, but if you communicate that too strongly to your children, they will use that to have power over you. You have to keep these things a certain size so that they're not used against you.

The second thing to remember is that you have to understand the power of the culture that kids go into. It's a very powerful culture that exerts a lot of pressure to "fit in." They may feel guilty if they lie to their parents. But, again, they're thinking, "This isn't that hurtful, and my parents just don't understand." Of course, parents do understand. They're frightened, and they should be.

So I think that parents have to assume that kids are going to tell them lies, because they're immature and they don't understand how hurtful these things are. They're also drawn towards excitement, and their parents aren't. It's not like the good kids aren't drawn to excitement and risk, and the bad kids are. It's not that the good kids don't lie and the bad kids do lie. They're all drawn to excitement, and they'll all have a tendency to distort the truth because they're kids.

I think parents have to deal with lying the way a cop deals with speeding. If you're going too fast, he gives you a ticket. He's not interested in a lot of explanations from you. He's just going to give you a consequence. Look at it the same way with your child. He didn't tell the truth, whether the truth was distorted, omitted or withheld. There should simply be consequences for that. The first time you lie, you go to bed an hour early. The second time, you lose your phone. It should be something that the kid feels. You lose your phone for twenty four hours. You lose your phone for two days. You lose computer time or TV time.

The consequences have to make the child uncomfortable or they don't change anything. The idea is that the next time he's faced with telling you the truth or lying, he'll recall how uncomfortable he was when he did the consequence for lying, and he'll tell you the truth instead.

The consequence should be about the lying. If there's a separate consequence for the incident, that should come down separately. If you come home later than your curfew and you tell me the truth, you may still lose going out Friday night, but you won't lose your phone. If you lie to me, you lose both.

Parents should not focus on the morality of it. Just be clear. Lying is wrong, it's hurtful and, in our home, we tell the truth. But don't make it a moral issue. Make it a technical issue. You broke the law. You broke the rules. These are your consequences.

When a cop writes me a ticket, he doesn't follow me home or argue with me. He hands me my ticket and he drives away. Approach the consequences for lying the same way. Don't argue about it or get into a big discussion. Discuss it in a structured way: "What were you trying to accomplish by doing that?" Not "Why did you lie? You know how much lying hurts me." Just ask what he was trying to accomplish, then point out that lying is not the way to solve his problem. Compliance is the way to solve it. Talk about it after things have cooled down, not in the heat of the moment. Explain what will happen if he lies again. "If you lie to me about the dance, you're not going to the next dance and I'm taking your phone for twenty four hours." Just keep it really simple.

Voip And Possible Business Applications by Steve Symes

Voip And Possible Business Applications by Steve Symes

Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP for short, is a class of hardware and software that enables the Internet to be used by people as a medium of transmission for phone calls. VoIP is used to send voice data in packets instead of the normal POTS circuits. The major advantage of VoIP is the non attraction of surcharges on telephone calls over the internet beyond what the caller will pay for internet access, just as no one pays for sending e-mails online.

Because VoIP is basically used for internet telephone calls, it is also referred to as "Voice over IP ". The two big motivations of this are cost and convenience, conventional phone services are more expensive and are not as fast as VoIP.

The benefits of VoIP include: You can make phone calls at reduced rate: It is doubtful if anyone would not jump at the opportunity of making phone calls at reduced rate.

Different service operators charge whatever they want for their packages; this is why some long distance calls might be free on some networks, while some will still charge a token amount for the same service. You will obtain additional features without spending a cent:

You can enjoy many features for free with VoIP services; whereas others provide them at a cost. Free VoIP features are voicemail, Call Forwarding, Call Transfer, Call Waiting, Call Waiting, Call Transfer, etc. For commercial purposes, you can also get free features like email and web utilities.

VoIP allows you to select your own phone number and area codes. In simple terms, this means that you can maintain an existing number by transferring it into a new VoIP - (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls.

As detailed as this article might be about "Voip And Possible Business Applications", don't forget that one can find more info related to or specific to "Voip And Possible Business Applications" or any such information from any of the search engines such as MSN.com. I urge you to commit yourself to getting specific information therein about "Voip And Possible Business Applications".

Conclusion:

So, now you know the basics about VoIP technology, and you know that it can replace most aspects of existing telephone systems. The next decision is whether you consider the technology reliable enough to commit your business or even your home phone system to VoIP. VoIP has not been around for long, but already it would seem to be just one more of those technologies of the internet which will become so popular that eventually it will replace the old way of doing things. Even the inability of VoIP systems to allow you to make emergency calls will probably be solved. Traditional phone systems are going to always cost more when you consider that the internet telephony provider has all the advantages of simply using the internet communications systems which are already set up. You owe it to yourself and you company to spend the time to research the VoIP advantages for you company or home.

Whether you are an early adopter, or a reluctant acceptor of the unassailable benefits of the new VoIP technology you could do much worse than to visit the author's 'VoIP for Business'web site and learn more.

Effective Decisions For VOIP Solutions by Neil Walker

Not all advertisements you find online or other places are straightforward. Often filled with implications, not facts, you may be misled. VOIP solutions providers can do this by placing many different types of charges on credit cards. Once they are paid, what can be done?

Designing a communication system today means taking into consideration various skill sets and experiences. With VOIP solutions, the cheapest option is not always the best even if it appears to be so. While it used to be that older fixed line telephones were simple and straightforward, business lines today are anything but.

With the new technology available today, it is incredibly important to make well researched and coordinated decisions to make the investment in VOIP solutions worthwhile. While the internet can bring investment savings, this savings is negated when the customer can not communicate effectively through the new system.

One of the largest problems is that VOIP solutions do not pay enough attention to basic business designs. Some companies using them have such terrible experiences that they have gone back to using standard fixed phone lines. Competitors can take advantage of this, which makes the problem even worse than expected, by having VOIP solutions properly designed for their business.

Effectively Using VOIP Solutions In Your Business

Often, companies make mistakes in who they trust with these decisions, such as counting on engineers to make decisions, or they fall for the false advertisements read. Many executives are not current in their knowledge of VOIP solutions or its technology and are unwilling to show their ignorance to better the company's bottom line. Do not make these mistakes.

Know what to expect when using VOIP solutions within your own business. There are two benefits that are likely to be seen. First, cost savings can be found, as this is the most well known benefit. Secondly, providing better customer service relationships can happen in some situations.

Rather than trying to work your business around VOIP solutions, it should fit within your business. This means always making customer requirements the first importance and by not falling for what looks good only on paper. In some situations traditional methods of communication with clients can still be considered and should be kept in mind.

While these systems may be new to you, finding quality service providers is necessary. One way to be sure to get this level of attention is by gathering fact based feedback from satisfied users of the service.

Identity Theft is America's fastest growing crime. by Amanda Bullucks

We live in an information-oriented society. Technology allows us to do business and make transactions literally in a matter of seconds. This abundance of information has given rise to a new crime - identity theft. In fact, according to a 2003 release from the Federal Trade Commission, approximately 27 million Americans have fallen prey to identity thieves since 1999. Each year that number climbs higher and higher. In 2003 alone, almost 10 million people in the United States reported being victimized by identity bandits.

So what does that mean? Someone has stolen your credit card - your credit card company can help you with that, right? Well, according to the FTC, almost 60% of identity theft issues don't pertain to your existing credit card accounts. Identity theft can occur as a result of new lines of credit being opened in your name either through credit cards or bank loans, as well as phone/utility fraud and even employment related fraud. Because we are susceptible through so many avenues in our daily life, we are all at risk.

What can you do? Where would you turn if you found yourself in this situation? Would you know where to start to clear your name? Well, now you don't have to worry about what to do as we have the answer.

How To Experience the Entertainment of Movies in Your Living Room by Zola Mathe

Most people who work in television work in entertainment production rather than just acting. Nokia is also said to be working on handsets that will receive wireless television feeds. HDTV stands for high definition television and you may think that it only has to do with the video portion of TV viewing.

Even without an HDTV signal though, HDTVs improve the viewing experince anyway due to the increased resolution of the screen, making even normal television signals appear sharper and smoother. Many people live too far out of town to get cable, so for years they were stuck with antennas for their source of television signals. Satellite TV systems handle a number of tasks, including communicating with a satellite 22,000 miles above the earth's surface, unscrambling and encrypted signals, converting the signal into analog or HDTV format as needed by the TV set and splitting out one channel at a time so that the viewer receives only that satellite television channel they are seeking.

These receivers also permit pausing live television and video recording. HDTV or, High Definition Television is the new generation of TV, and is capable of displaying analog signals as well as those that are digital in nature. A flat panel television is a lightweight television set that hangs from the wall or ceiling and only three or four inches thick.

This innovative technology dominates the television market and they are now more affordable as the prices have decreased. TV entertainment center take the center of attention off your television and allow you to focus on the entire room. If you have been salivating for a true home theater experience a projector beats any of the new fangled television technologies any time.

New projectors boast an array of connectivity options which regular television sets lack. Some are armoires which open and close depending on if you are watching television or listening to your stereo. All said, television is only one of the many elements of a big screen entertainment center.

Also, keep in mind that though it might take you some time to search for the perfect corner entertainment center, do remember there is a furniture style and size to match every television on the market from trim corner stands to room spanning home theater units. At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy duddy, how were children entertained a 100 years ago when there were no television or computer games. Small children used to be given colouring books and pencils, now the trend is to plonk them down in front of the television and let it entertain them.

That's just television alone. These are the people who step in during television shows and big screen movies to perform the stunt scenes, i. Most of the performers, however, are still primarily "stage" actors, who spend more time on the stages of New York and will appear in television and screen roles as a secondary venue.

Actors from movies and television are frequently cast for the premieres of Broadway shows or are used to replace actors leaving a cast. No television or video games were there at that time. The Federal Communication Commission's campaign for censorship of media, particularly the television and radio outlets have lead to a flurry of consumers moving their eyes and ears to uncensored media formats.

Recent events such as the complaints against various television licensees concerning their February 1, 2004, broadcast of the Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show and the lewd remarks by Howard Stern in his national radios broadcasts have left the FCC with a difficult decision. Although, the recommendation is 27 inches television set at a minimum is necessary for your home theater set up. This however points back to the choice of television unit; you may need to check if the flat television set supports progressive scan signals.

Just as cordless phones 20 years ago freed us from needing a phone on the wall in every room, so this television may well free us from a screen in every room. Away from home, this television allows users to enjoy A/V content and internet access by connecting to their Base Station via any public wireless access point: airports, hotels, internet cafes, and other hotspots. How do you sell a pay per view if you don't have any television time to market it on.

Babies love television, the noise and movement will fascinate them for hours and although you might not want to encourage your newborn to watch television all the time you might find it useful as part of the nursery entertainment. To help you to make reality TV something that is more than just a television show, consider these ways. Why not challenge her to a cooking showdown based on this reality television show.

Five Benefits of Having an Intercom System Installed in your Home by Craig Wilson

The humble intercom system has come a long way in recent years and is no longer limited to the simple front door unit and control panel. More and more features are being added as the technology becomes available and as a result the convenience and security that they offer the home owner has increased enormously. Once confined to business and apartment use intercoms are now becoming commonplace in residential homes as they become more affordable and with a wireless system, easily installed into an existing dwelling. Read on to find out about benefits that you may not have thought possible with a modern intercom system.

1. Home and Personal Security - the number one on the list for good reason. It goes without saying that the world can be a nasty place and protecting your home and loved ones has never been more important. With the use of a Video Intercom system you can view who is at your door before deciding to let them in. If the visitor is not someone you know you can find out the reason for their visit before opening the door. A video intercom can also be used for surveillance recording which is handy if you are going to be away from your home for a period of time and many units can support multiple cameras for all round protection.

2. Automated Entry - add an automatic gate opener to your intercom system and protect your home at the frontline. Gate openers are available to suit all types of gates, from single to double and swing or sliding gates. Open your front gate with the push of a button and with a self locking unit be assured that once your visitor is inside the gate will not be able to be manually opened by anyone else. The control of these units can be integrated into your intercom system and you have the choice of wired or wireless operation. Another feature that is available on some gate openers is solar powered operation, saving electricity and reducing the installation costs. With some top-end systems the gate can even be operated by your mobile phone!

3. Room Monitoring - With a central control panel and room stations set-up around the house you can use your intercom to monitor what is going on in those rooms. Keep tabs on the kids playing in the back room or use it to listen for when your sleeping baby awakes. With these units you can also communicate with the occupants of the room, so the kids will have no excuse for not hearing you ever again!

4. Have Your Favorite Music Piped Through Your Home - Several control units have the feature of inputs for a radio or a cd player and some units come with these already built in. Tune-in to your favorite radio station or put on your favorite cd and have the music piped to each room that has a station installed in it. Outdoor units are available for patios and entertaining areas, perfect for barbeques or having friends over.

5. More Home Security Options - the modern intercom system control unit can be configured to operate video monitoring and recording, motion detectors, window and door sensors and glass breakage sensors. They can also offer back to base monitoring for a complete home alarm and intercom system in one. Why settle for a simple home alarm when you can have the convenience of both systems in one?

"How Implementing Systems in Your Business Will Completely Change Your Life" by Victoria Player - The Online Marketing Coach

Countless solo-preneurs and small business owners feel frustrated about marketing. Most have read the marketing books and listened to the teleclasses yet are still unable to attract clients regularly.

You can learn as much about marketing as you'd like but when you're a small business owner working to a shoestring budget you need to be sure that you're implementing strategies that work for YOUR type of business and then create a system for putting those strategies on autopilot.

So to be sure that you don't experience feast or famine, I've compiled all the strategies and techniques I use to ensure that you'll always attract clients, easily and consistently. I've discovered that having a thriving business has little to do with discipline, willpower or hard work. The secret is all about implementing systems for running a business so that the system works for you (not the other way around), and that you have the time and freedom within your business to enjoy your life. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. Put Things on Autopilot

Putting your marketing plan on autopilot happens by creating a system for every single aspect of what you do to attract clients. That way you don't have to think about what to do next, you just follow the system.

2. Separate Your Space

Keep a separate, distinct work area in your home. (This is especially difficult if you're living and working in a shoebox studio, like I was when I started my business!) If you don't have a separate room, at least define an area, and know that when you're in it, you're in "work mode."

3. Eliminate In-Person Meetings

Eliminate in-person meetings were possible, even with prospects. Use the phone, email or even online conferencing. For most home-based entrepreneurs, when you're out of the office, you're NOT making money. So it's important that you can communicate flawlessly from where you are. By doing this the time you spend travelling to and from an appointment can be used more productively elsewhere.

4. Outsource All You Can

Learn to outsource where possible. Whenever you start thinking, "Well I can just do that myself," STOP. Streamline your business, making everything as automatic as possible. Use outside services to stay focused on your 'real work'. Enlist the help of a virtual assistant (VA) to take phone calls and handle email. Get a bookkeeper or even enlist help for outside errands. Save your energy for your brilliant ideas and the things that will really generate money!

5. Structure Your Time

Allot certain tasks to a specific days of the week. Create business development only days so that you can work on your marketing undisturbed. Try to group your meetings and errands together to minimize your out-of-office time. Make a list in the morning of all the outside tasks you need done for the day, and attempt to complete them in one fell swoop. Even better, do what I do and designate just one day a week as your "blitz" day for errands and meetings. Plus, then you only need to get dressed up one day a week!

As your business and personal time mesh, it's more important than ever to structure your day. Break down your most important tasks to ensure that all the non-essentials stuff doesn't hinder your time and try to do it every day at the same time. It will actually help to keep you business on track!

6. Use Technology to Your Advantage

Use client management software such as ACT to ensure easy scheduling of client follow-ups and appointments.

Use colour coding in your client management software. I use pink for my to-do list, green for appointments, blue for teleseminars and speaking engagements and so on.

Set up folders in your email program for each category of client, including a folder for referrals and one for speaking opportunities to help keep you on track.

Set up rules in your email program so that particular emails got directly to their respective folders, saving you lots of time and helping you prioritise your email.

Take some time today to sit down and make a list of all the things that are falling through the cracks in your business (and even at home). Then, look at each item on the list and create a way of systematising the solution to the problem so that it gets handled easily, efficiently and without fail. You'll start living life with a lot more ease and start having more fun, guaranteed!

When you take a little time to set systems in place you will find that they work hard for you, as apposed to you working hard, it affects both your business and your personal life. On the business front, fewer things fall through the cracks, things run smoothly and you have the capacity and time to take on more clients, create more products or simply make more money and who doesn't want to do that!

Cellular Phone Technology by Tom Hansen

When choosing a cell phone you need to know the type of service your wireless provider supports. There are two types of wireless cervices still available at this time. They are Analog and Digital.

Analog Service is similar to FM radio in that modulating radio signals carry information such as voice or data. The receiver and transmitter must be tuned to the same frequency within a small band width for the receiver to rebuild the signal, amplify it, and send it to the speaker. There are limitations on the number of channels that can be used making this technology soon to be outlived. Effective February 2008, many wireless providers will be discontinuing support of this service.

Digital Service is a method similar to computers, in that it uses binary code of Os and 1s. Most new wireless phones and networks use digital technology. The analog signal in Digital is converted into binary code and transmitted as a series of on and off transmissions. There are three digital wireless technologies, CDMA, TDMA and GSM and I will explain these three as phones that work with one may not work on another.

TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) was released in 1994; it uses the frequency bands available to the wireless network and divided them into time slots with each phone user having access to one time slot at regular intervals. In North America TDMA uses both 800 MHz and 1900 MHz bands. Most of the major wireless carriers use TDMA.

CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology dates back to the 1940's, when it was developed for military use because it was resistant to interference from enemy signals. Known as spread spectrum technology this technology was restricted to military use and top secret during World War 2. In the 1980's the commercial use of this technology was realized after a 1976 publication of Spread Spectrum Systems by Robert Dixon was published. Previous publications were classified military reports or narrow subtopics on academic papers. By 1993 CDMA was accepted as a standard and went into operation in 1996. CDMA also exists at both the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz band, and is used by the major carriers.

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is based upon an improved version of TDMA technology. In 1982, a conference in Europe created a digital standard to allow users to roam from country to country in Europe. By 1987, the GSM standard was created based upon both analog and TDMA digital technologies. Using wider 200 kHz channels instead of the 30 kHz channels TDMA used along with other modifications they were able to speed up the bit rate with a more natural sounding voice-compression algorithm. This also enabled GSM to provide such other data services as email, fax, internet browsing, and internet/LAN wireless access. The GSM standard was accepted in the United States in 1995 and is the only phone that can be used around the world. This technology will be the bases of future growth in the wireless phone industry as it offers the multifunction capabilities today's users require.

Why You Need to Address the Issue of Home Security and Safet by James Kronefield

Though crime is supposed to be going down in many areas of the country, it can not be considered safe. The threat of assault, theft and worse, is high on the priority list of many people. When you address the issue of home security and safety, you are taking steps to protect your most important asset as well as the beloved people who live within.

Why Worry About Home Safety and Security?

Not only is your home and the things contained in it a valuable commodity, but your family is an important factor when you are researching the advantages of home safety and security. The crime that has become all too common is the home invasion. In the past criminals were content to lie in wait until the homeowners were away or fast asleep. They are no longer content to wait, but now strike whenever it is convenient for them. This can mean that while you are giving your baby a bath while your other child is doing her homework, that violent perpetrators can invade your home, steal all your belongings and terrorize your family, if not worse.

This is especially true if you live near or in a high crime area, though living in the country is no guarantee you will be safe. With drug use rampant among teens and adults, there are more people likely to commit a crime to procure drugs for their next fix and if your family is standing in their way they won't hesitate to harm them.

What Can Be Done to Ensure Home Safety and Security for Your Family

Prices for home safety and security systems have dropped dramatically due to the availability of electronics. Technology is being developed everyday for more sophisticated home safety and security systems that are far more affordable than they have ever been. It used to be that only those who were rich or had a home that was chock full of expensive things were the houses that were targeted. This is no longer true. Everyone, even the average working Joe has an expensive TV, cell phone, computer systems as well as many other electronic gadgets that can bring hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to criminals.

This has become quite a lucrative market. No longer do criminals have to find out what a home contains to find out if it is worth taking the risk of robbing. Now they can pick and choose any house on the block and be sure that they will walk away with plenty for their efforts. No one is safe and making home safety and security for your family is no longer a luxury, it is becoming a necessity.

What Kind of Home Safety and Security Systems are Available?

There are many different types of safety and security systems you can buy. It all depends upon your budget and what you are willing to spend to ensure your family's safety. There are home security systems that use a simple alarm on a door or window, to home security and safety systems that use cameras to monitor activity as well as motion detectors, automatic lighting when someone comes onto the property and even something that is called a panic room. A panic room is a secure room with a reinforced entry with a system in place that allows you to contact the police in case your home has been invaded. This is supposed to be a safe haven where your family can escape to should you be victims of a home invasion.

It is unfortunate that one must think in terms of safeguarding their home, family and belongings, but such is the state we find the world in which we live in today. Give yourself peace of mind so you can fully enjoy engaging in family life without fear that you will be a victim of a home invasion.

Be a Successful Recruiter! by Kimberly Schenk

Be a Successful Recruiter! by Kimberly Schenk

Lots of people toy with the idea of becoming a Recruiter, and then talk themselves out of taking the leap. Recruiting is about 'process' not personality when done properly. If you're considering becoming an Executive Recruiter, my advice is get some basic training related to the WHOLE process and decide where (and if) you'd fit into that process.

The opportunities in Recruiting are endless! You may find recruiting to be the most rewarding position you've ever had emotionally, intellectually, and financially. Give it a chance!

The more facets of recruiting you feel you can handle, the better you'll perform and the more money you'll make. Whether you want to be a contract recruiter, in-house corporate recruiter, independent Executive Recruiter, or staffing consultant, the key principles remain the same. What changes is the working environment, amount of personal independence, amount of stress and pressure, and money one makes.

Sadly, newbies often have the most frustration and make the least money. Why? Because their indifferent employers don't care about training, skills, or integrity. The, "Keep pushing the bodies through" mentality doesn't work today (never did) and the turnover rates in these operations tell that sad story. Don't believe the line, "It's just a numbers game. You'll earn what you're worth." That's pure Bull. Walk away from these operations.

In the past ten years great efforts by large and small companies have broken down the search process into multiple functions. Personally, while many companies must prefer all the added layers of bureaucracy, the comments I hear from clients make me believe too many of these "new" systems are lacking.

One specific complaint is the amount of time to fill a position is growing. Here's a joke: An employer posts some ads on a few Job Boards, gets a bunch of resumes, some from very qualified candidates, and yet it takes MONTHS to make a contact with those qualified candidates. ha-ha. And then the employer complains that candidates 'shop' for jobs and aren't serious enough! Who could take an employer seriously who manages their employment process like employees are THE LEAST important part of that companies' success?

Situations like this are everywhere! This is bad news for those kinds of companies (and their corporate recruiters) and great for Executive Recruiters, whose major strength is speed and candidate quality. I've made a fortune off of hiring managers who've had open positions for months. The official company policy may be, "We handle all recruiting in-house", but the reality is if I've got a qualified candidate they need, they'll pay my fee and be happy.

Too many recruiters rely too heavily on reading resumes and resume data sorting software. The resume tracking software is an important tool that often provides one or more extra placements a month for small agencies. Big companies rely heavily on the software too. There's a place for these tools.

I'm not knocking any tool that assists in making placements; however tools are not a substitute for sound, practical, tried and true recruiting methods and strategies that really make placements.

Recruiters are always looking for new and better sourcing methods. Many are looking for ways to NOT recruit! The big bucks go to those Headhunters who have taken the time to learn how to pick up the phone, track down great candidates, interview and qualify them, present the opportunity, verify relevant facts, and schedule the send out. Successful Recruiters don't "wing it", they follow a process.

There's a way to present an offer so that it gets accepted. There's a way to keep negotiations going and a way for Employer and Candidate to both be happy when negotiations are completed. Take the time to understand the process up front and your success will be immediate and ongoing.

The funny thing is: Those Recruiters who take the time to learn their craft, make tons more money with far less effort than 80% of all other types of recruiters. Be a successful Recruiter. Start with investing a few dollars in your own training. The return on investment will be immeasurable.

We train successful recruiters. visit us at: http://www.toprecruitersecrets.com

Top 10 Dangers of Cell Phone Use (September 2007 Survey) by Jarvis Stevens

A new survey released today suggests the biggest fear people have related to mobile use is terrorism.

- Mobile Bullying (ie..intimidating messages sent from peers in the school yard or work place) - 13%

- Physical Health Dangers (ie..wireless smog, phone masts or heat from device panels and batteries) - 12%

- Privacy Invasion (ie..operator-centric GPS systems to track individual's whereabouts - 9%

- Violent Crime (ie..random mobile theft, pre-meditated assault filming or extortion) - 6%

- Operator Scams (ie..opt-in subscriptions, corrupt TV call-in and voting competitions) - 5%

- Intrusive Marketing (ie.."mobile spam" of betting/gaming/adult sent via SMS or Bluetooth) - 4%

- Accidents (ie..driving, walking down the street using device) - 3%

- Messaging Hoaxes (ie..prank faux terror threats or health scares via SMS) - 3%

Writer TJ Behe is not surprised people have become more astute to such dangers and his latest graphic novel focuses on the subject.

"We're seeing the good, bad and ugly side of mobile phone use. Dangerous social behaviour. Serious health risks. Various scams sprung upon us by nasty people operating in the telecoms market. It's important folks are aware of how this - after all, we walk around with one of these things in our pockets and purse!

Behe book's Contraband is illustrated by UK comic artist Phil Elliott and follows a young man's journey into a new "voyeur underground", where profit-hungry youths prowl streets secretly filming radical events with mobile devices to satisfy society's demand for sensational on-the-go content.

Employer e-mail monitoring by David Yuri

The legislation referring to employer e-mail monitoring is still in an emerging phase that is quite unsettled at this point in time. In this brief article the privacy rights of non public-sector employees are debated as they are considered to be relatively unprotected by the federal and state regulations. It is true that there are various broad judicial interpretations of enacted privacy legislations that may encourage the legitimacy of employer e-mail monitoring practices as elements of common law claims are quite difficult to prove by employees.

The use of e-mail throughout business hours is quite a common characteristic of the 21st century workplace world wide. According to recent studies there are more than 130 million workers only in the US who are flooding recipients with approximately 3 billion e-mail messages per day and that is why e-mail monitoring services have also become popular among employers. E-mail services are provided as efficient means of facilitating intra-company communication and communication with the outside client bases. The e-mail serves increase the efficiency of the workflow as it is not expensive to provide, simple to install and easy to use. Also, e-mail usage has helped in the process of decreasing the use of office-related, paper-based correspondence. However, the need of e-mail monitoring services has increased as this technological advancement has also proven to create collateral problems. These issues occur when the use of e-mail services is directed towards employees' private life. It is important to note that the legal environment today seems to be quite unprepared as far as solving the e-mail monitoring problem is concerned. This legislative problem is mainly based on the fact that a lot of employees are not aware of their privacy rights concerning the company-provided e-mail accounts. Most employees draw the false assumption that their personal e-mail messages sent from work are protected from their employers' scrutiny.

It is common that employee privacy issues also arise in other areas of the work environment besides the e-mail monitoring. Some employers have even gone to the extent where they monitor employee phone calls and in some rare cases companies even record the time employees spend on their bathroom breaks. The use of e-mail monitoring services in order to observe the employees behavior actually represents an aspect of the legitimate struggle between the employer's ability to conduct its business operations and the employees' privacy rights. This is a serious struggle whose boundaries are continuously changing as far as the arena of workplace e-mail is concerned. The problem occurring from this rapid advancement is that neither the Constitution nor the state and federal legislations provide a clear concept referring to the extent of employee privacy rights as far as work-related e-mail accounts are concerned.

There are several companies that are marketing e-mail monitoring services with the purpose of full e-mail monitoring by use of applications to programs that can record the time used by employees to check their e-mail. Such a full e-mail application program records information like e-mail recipient, e-mail sender, number of words used, time spent reading e-mails, time spent composing e-mails, number of attachments,; and type of e-mail (business-related or non-business related). On the other hand, there are companies that use less-intrusive e-mail monitoring programs that pick up only information, such as employee name, date, and time the e-mail was read.

Some of these e-mail monitoring services may be considered as crossing the line between employers' legitimate business justifications and intrusion into employees' privacy. The present state of e-mail monitoring definitely creates a need for new legal rules and concepts that both employers and employees can have access to in case they need to defend their business practices or to remedy an invasion of their privacy.

It is recommended that employers who want to avoid liability for monitoring employee e-mail usage "take all necessary steps to eliminate any reasonable expectation of privacy that employees may have concerning their use of company e-mail...systems." (Lewis, supra, note 8) All this should be done via a company inside regulation that comprises a detailed electronic communications policy distributed regularly to all employees before any monitoring begins. The most important things that this policy should state include the fact that the employee is absent of any private rights while using the company e-mail and a thorough explanation of the rules governing the use of the e-mail system.

More and more employers consider {a href=" http://www.SiteRecon.com"}e-mail monitoring as an action of reducing their employees' private messaging that conflicts with the workflow and create server overloading. This is why a lot of employers choose to solve this problem by means of an e-mail monitoring service needs.

Latest Affiliate Trend: Free Cash, Gaming Systems, Electronics, and More by Chris Robertson

There are some people who say that affiliate marketing is a waste of a website's real estate and that, in recent years, companies have turned away from affiliates in favor of search engine advertising. Marketing gurus may soon be eating their words, though, as ingenious entrepreneurs and savvy consumers have found a groundbreaking way to make affiliate marketing both fun and profitable for all involved.

From an advertiser's perspective, offering an affiliate program helps fill the insatiable need for new customers or clients. It may not be the only element of the company's marketing efforts, but affiliates continue to provide a steady stream of new business. Because companies pay their affiliates based solely on performance (as opposed to based on, for example, the number of impressions), it's a good investment for the advertiser.

From the affiliate's perspective, button and banner advertising have no hard costs. The space is there anyway, so why not incorporate affiliate advertising as one of a website's revenue streams? In order to bring in significant revenue, however, the challenge for the affiliate is the same as that for any other website: generating traffic. After all, without traffic, affiliate revenue, AdSense revenue, and any other revenue grinds to a halt.

This is the point where affiliate marketing has undergone a transformation. By offering incentives to consumers and other webmasters to patronize the first website's affiliates, everyone wins. Advertisers get new customers, affiliates receive revenue, and consumers and other webmasters receive enticing incentives. If you were a gamer, why wouldn't you want a free PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Nintendo Wii? If you love music, you'd certainly be up for getting a free iPod or MP3 player. And who wouldn't celebrate receiving a new HDTV, new computers, or cold, hard cash?

The way it works is both simple and clever. A website with dozens or hundreds of affiliates offers free memberships to individuals and webmasters. A new member starts by selecting the incentive he or she wishes to receive - money, a PS3, an Xbox 360, a Wii, a cell phone, or an iPod, for example.

There are three different methods a member can use to earn the free gift: referral, cash back, or points. Through referral, the member encourages friends to sign up using a link that connects to the member's account and to complete offers from a variety of affiliate partners. The number of referrals needed varies by the value of the incentive the member has requested. The cash back method allows members to receive cash for each offer they complete, and the points method enables members to accrue points towards their prize of choice.

Once a member completes the requirements, he or she can order their free gift and the website fulfills the request. Essentially, the gift is a commission on the money earned from the member referrals and completed offers.

This kind of transformative affiliate marketing enables websites to encourage consumers and others to advertise their affiliate programs while rewarding them to do so. Advertisers, meanwhile, receive the new customers they need and want. It's a sure-win for everyone involved!

Calls for US by Frank Vanderlugt

Making calls to US to our loved ones is not an easy task. It is obvious for our hearts to desire for more when it comes to establishing a conversation with people we love. However, limited talk time and exorbitant call tariffs leave our hands lied.

There are several ways to communicate in the US including telephones and emergencies.

When it comes to phone numbers, the standard American telephone number is ten digits such as 555-555-1234. Now, here the area code consists of the first three digits and often need to be dialed when one makes a local call. In case, you are calling a number outside the originating area code, you would require to dial '1' prior to the ten-digit number if you are calling via a residential landline phone such as 1-555-555-1234. You should also check with your hotel before dialing a long distance number because hotels usually have their own specific dialing policies.

Most 'toll-free' phone numbers are with area codes "866", "800", "888" and "877". These numbers are billed to the owner of the particular number and not the caller. Hence, you don't require to pay anything for these numbers via a pay phone. However, you should keep in mind that most of the hotels in the US still change a fee for connection if you want to dial these numbers from a room phone.

Emergency calls from the US can be made by dialing 911. This will provide you immediate assistance from an emergency personnel. This number can also be dialed to reach the fire department, police or medical assistance. 911 is a free number and can be dialed for no fee at all from any phone including pay phone. If you are looking for directory assistance, dial 411. Here, you may require to pay some charges.

There is also a provision in the US to make calls in case a spider or snake bites someone. All one requires to do is to contact the poison center at 1-800-222-1222. This will provide you prompt assistance.

Cell phones are really popular in the US. The coverage of cell phones here is good in well populated areas however, you would find different carriers with exclusive systems and areas. This indicates that the cell phone service provided to you in certain areas of the country may be extremely poor and really great in some other areas.

You may have to face mediocre or non existent coverage in several subways and buildings. GSM mobile telephones work at varied frequencies in the US as compared to other countries. The 1900 MHz is really common in the US. These days 850 MHz is really common in the US. These days 850 MHz is used in cellular phones, specifically on the cingular network.

You may additionally require a tri or quad-band telephone service to work well in the United States. Try contacting your cellular provider regarding the phone and service compatibility prior to traveling.

You can also purchase calling cards from convenience stores. Almost every super market sells these cards.

Portable GPS Units, Key To Finding Your Way by Jim Kesel

The early handheld or portable GPS units were designed for military personnel. They tended to be bulkier and somewhat cumbersome to use. Now that GPS technology has been made available to civilians, the GPS units themselves have improved in one essential area of design: portability. The new portable GPS units allow consumers to have as much GPS power as soldiers have and in some cases have more features. This article will discuss the three types of portable GPS units available on the market: GPS units used exclusively for tracking purposes, GPS units designed for navigation and portable GPS units which can be used for both.

Portable GPS units designed for tracking are available in a variety of forms. The first are known as GPS auto trackers. The portable version of GPS auto trackers are usually battery-operated and can be conveniently put in the car's glove compartment. The next type of portable GPS unit with tracking capabilities are personal GPS systems. They can be a small device that looks like a cell-phone, (which can be placed in one's pocket, purse or backpack), built in special GPS watches or even in tennis shoes. These systems can be used to track loved ones, (especially children), or for exercise performance purposes. The latter is done by allowing a person to track how far and fast they might have walked or jogged. Finally, there are GPS units that can track expensive personal belongings, such as laptops. These types of portable GPS units can be placed in a USB or flash card slot.

On the other end of the spectrum are portable GPS units designed for navigation, also known as GPS navigators. GPS navigators can either be handheld or designed for use in a car. Handheld GPS navigators look similar to a cell phone. The graphics can either be in color or in black or white. GPS navigators designed for the car are generally rectangular and can be connected to the windshield by suction cups. Both types of GPS navigators allow a person to obtain directions and maps as they are on the road. Sophisticated portable GPS navigators communicate directions through a computer-generated voice.

Combination portable GPS units are designed for both navigational and tracking capabilities. An example can be seen through GPS-enabled cell phones. The downside to these at least in comparison to GPS navigators is that they only work in areas that have that particular cell phone company's coverage. If the area does not have coverage, the cell phone GPS won't work well. However the portable GPS units navigation capabilities are not affected by poor cell phone coverage.

Portable GPS units can be used for tracking, navigation or a combination of the two. Indeed, these GPS units offer quite a bit of GPS power, considering their reduced size. With a device that is small enough to fit in one's pocket, people are offered two things: the ability to get to their chosen destination on time or the ability to keep a 'virtual' eye on expensive possessions or loved ones. Price-wise portable GPS units with the tracking capability will be a bit more expensive, but in the long run when one is ensured that everything and everyone most dear to them is where they are supposed to be, it won't take long to realize the money would be well-spent.

Video Counseling by Jennifer Baxt

Video Counseling

There may come a time in your life when you need counseling. You may need marriage counseling, family counseling, grief counseling, or some other type of therapy. Getting counseling, however, does require your time, and you simply may not have time to literally go to a counselor's office. Online counseling may be the answer for you - but it may not be enough.

With advancing technology, you could have video counseling. A video counselor will do everything that an in-person counselor would do - except it is done via video, instead of face-to-face. Video counseling literally takes online counseling a step further, in that you can have an actual therapy session with the use of two way video.

Online counseling is fine for many, but sometimes, it will be beneficial to both you and the video counselor to be able to see your face and to hear your voice. In this way, they can get a better sense of what you are feeling, and adjust the therapy to those feelings.

At the same time, you benefit by being able to have your video counseling in the privacy of either your home or office. This makes it possible to keep appointments easier, and to enjoy that total privacy as well. Video counseling is just like face-to-face counseling in the same room.

Video counseling also gives you another advantage. You can enjoy what constitutes an actual therapy session, without having to drive to the therapist's office. This works especially well for people who do not live near a good therapist, allowing you to choose from any video counselor in the world, regardless of your location or theirs.

In many cases, video counseling is less expensive than traditional counseling as well. You also don't have to worry about purchasing expensive equipment for video counseling. All you need is a computer, an Internet connection (preferably high speed), a web cam ($10 - $20), and one of the many popular messaging systems that is video enabled, such as MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, or Skype, all of which are free.

If you have put off seeking counseling due to time constraints or privacy issues, you should definitely consider seeking out a video counselor for video counseling. A video counselor can help you address a wide variety of issues, and can even conduct couples therapy and family therapy via video counseling. Depending on the services offered by your video counselor, your video counseling may also include counseling via email, phone, or online chat.

Home Automation- Is it for you? Great ideas for your home: by Ben Stern

Home Automation- Is it for you? Great Ideas for your home.

Having the ability to Remotely and wirelessly control lights and appliances can be not only cool but incredibly convenient for those of us seeking a modern digital home. Imagine having all inside and outside lights, sprinklers, fountains and almost any other appliance imaginable in your home, working automatically in concert with each other to provide the ultimate in safety and comfort. Not to mention the practical benefits of arriving home in the dark to a well lit property, free of boogey men and whatever else happens to roam your neighborhood after hours.

How about the ability to view your home via the internet with wireless cameras that can capture footage on demand or when a sensor trips? All of this and more is possible with x10 products. What is the best part about it? All of the equipment available is completely affordable, easy to set up and use.

Like the majority of my fellow gadget lovers, I've been remotely controlling lights and appliances using X10 modules that send on/off commands through a homes existing power line since the early '80s. The x10 Power-line Carrier protocol was created in the late '70s and continues to be the industry standard. Over the last 30 years, the company has developed and sold millions of units, not only under the X10 brand name but also as an Original Equipment Manufacturer for major consumer electronic companies such as IBM, Phillips, Magnavox and Radio Shack.

In the mid '90s, X10 introduced the first PC-based home control kit called Active Home, enabling programmed routines to execute automatically through a serial port interface module plugged into a power outlet. Since then, over one million units have been sold. Much to the delight of these customers, the company has released a much anticipated upgrade kit called Active Home Pro, featuring an amazingly functional tiny white whole house transceiver box with built-in RF and a USB connection combined with newly designed control software. This system enables the user to control every function right from their computer either manually or automatically.

The active Home Pro upgrade kit is only $49.99, equal to the cost of one control device. Of course, you can purchase a complete kit for $99.00 which includes controllers, remote controls, wireless key chains, light sockets and wall sockets. Shipping is free for all orders over $49.00 at x10captain.

X10's Active Home Pro is a clear winner for the Do-It-Yourself customer. Years of customer feedback has resulted in a system that is technologically sophisticated yet doesn't require a computer programming degree to operate. The basic concept is simple. Plug control modules/switches into lights and appliances, assign each one a house/unit code such as A1, and insert the module into a wall outlet/switch box. Boot up the Active Home Pro software, and enter the fun and colorful world of X10's computer based remote home control.

From here, the possibilities are virtually endless. The new USB computer interface with built-in RF whole house transceiver can send and receive all 256 house/unit codes and even control X10 cameras. The newly designed software uses drag and drop commands to label, organize and view by room all X10 control modules. Within minutes you can create for example an Evening Lights tab, and then create Macros grouped Inside Lights On and Inside Lights Off. Click on Timers to easily schedule lights and their brightness level based on dusk and dawn, day of week, holidays, etc. Better yet, forget about the timers.

Using the built in Lifestyle Mode, the software will automatically record when you turn lights on or off using a controller during a typical 24 hour day. Just download your instructions into the computer interface and turn off your machine. Your timers and routines will operate automatically year round.

The well designed, clean looking transceiver box also offers the ability to monitor X10 home surveillance cameras, provide remote control via the Internet or cell phone and even run if/then routines, commonly called conditional Macros.

Speaking of x10s cameras, there are so many different models to choose from, depending on your needs. I particularly love the camera systems that allow you to view your home via the internet anywhere you have a camera. I think any home owner would appreciate the ability to see who is coming around your home during the day or night. The cameras can be used to monitor your property outside, keep an eye on your business or help monitor a baby's or kids room inside your home . There are many possibilities. The user has the option to view and record any captured footage on demand or that was was tripped by a sensor. The nice part is you can record footage directly to your PCs hard drive or to a VCR.

Any home or business owner would appreciate these systems. They are affordable, easy to set up and use. I have multiple cameras around my home and all of them have come in handy at one point or another. If nothing else, they are very cool and feed my passion for cool gadgets.

Among the array of other X10 products offered at x10Captain.com, one of their popular items is the x10 video sender. The video sender enables the user to transmit TV transmissions from a basic cable box, DVD or VCR and transmit it to any other TV in the house without having to add extra cables or wires. It is 100% legal and eliminates the expense of adding additional cable lines and cables from your cable company. This is a nifty little gadget and works great. The price is only $49.99.

Overall, x10 products are amazing little pieces of technology. If you have never experienced home automation or have been using x10 items for years, I know you will agree that technology has infiltrated every part of our world. X10 has been making quality products for years and they continue to create new and exciting ways to enhance our every day life. I couldn't imagine living without them.
